Personal leadership. Careful craftsmanship.

Home is personal. That is why the work has to be responsible.

My name is Ivan Nikiforov. I grew up in Magadan, a small northern city in Russia closer to Alaska across the ocean than to many parts of Russia itself. It is a place of long winters, gold mining and people who learn early that hard work is not optional.

My first path was construction. I started at a construction college in 2002 and later studied economics and construction management. After the financial crisis, I spent about ten years in banking, working with clients, entrepreneurs and larger businesses. I was lucky to learn from smart people, and even in the corporate world our team knew that a little humor helps people get through serious work.

When the war in Ukraine began, my wife and I decided to leave Russia and start over in the United States with our three children. Starting over was not easy, but it has been humbling in the best way. My oldest son arrived with almost no English; a year and a half later, his English was already better than mine, and he kindly told me my accent sounds like a three-year-old girl.

In the Bay Area, I came back to construction from the ground up: working with contractors, taking on handyman and remodeling projects, coordinating subcontractors, and learning how homes are built and improved here. I do not believe in HGTV-style promises; real remodeling takes planning, honest expectations, clear communication and careful work.

Family Builder was created around that idea. We are here to build a long-term business by doing quality work, treating people fairly, and earning the kind of trust that makes clients recommend us to their friends, neighbors and family.

  • Clear from the beginningWritten scope, pricing and expectations before work starts.
  • Respectful in your homeCareful protection, daily cleanup and clear communication.

Drywall Repair & Interior Painting

Mayank S.September 28, 2024

Ivan was referred to me by a smart electrician, Mr Jaey from JYL Smart Electric, a small business owner. Ivan came and did an excellent, awesome job to the smallest details on patching up the drilling holes on the drywall, cut the old bumpy uneven sheet rock and replaced it with a new drywall, patched up with texture and applied the new paint on the patched drywall area in the family room, living room and dining room.

What homeowners ask.

How can I understand the cost before committing?

Start with photos, your city and a short description of your priorities. After reviewing the space, we provide a written scope and price. Review the included work, material selections and any assumptions together so you know what the proposal covers before construction begins.

What if demolition reveals damage or the scope needs to change?

A site visit cannot reveal everything behind walls or under floors. Hidden damage or a new request can affect both the work and the cost. The next step is to review what has changed, the repair options and the effect on price and timing before agreeing to additional work.

How long will my project take, and what can cause delays?

Timing depends on the size of the project, existing conditions, material availability and the sequence of trades. Share your target date early so these dependencies can be reviewed. A useful schedule is based on the actual scope and selections; a firm completion date cannot be determined from photos alone.

Can my family stay at home during the work?

It depends on which rooms are affected and whether essential spaces remain usable. For occupied homes, we plan protection and work sequencing around the areas your family needs. Discuss access, noise, dust and any interruptions to kitchen or bathroom use before the project starts.

How will you protect my home from dust and mess?

Careful protection and daily cleanup are part of our approach. We plan the work area and explain what needs to be moved before work begins. Remodeling still creates dust and noise, so access routes and the rooms that remain in use are part of the planning conversation.

Who will I talk to, and how will I know what is happening?

Ivan is your responsible point of contact from the first visit through the final walkthrough. We communicate progress and coordinate the work so you have someone to discuss questions, decisions and next steps with. Share your preferred contact method when planning the project.

Will I need to coordinate the plumber, electrician and other trades myself?

We define the scope and coordinate the appropriate trade professionals in the right sequence. A kitchen or bathroom project can include supporting drywall, painting and finish work, with the included responsibilities set out in the proposal.

I have a look in mind. Can you help me understand what is practical?

Bring reference photos and tell us what matters most: appearance, storage, easier maintenance or day-to-day use. Ivan reviews your design direction alongside the existing space. That conversation helps clarify practical choices, finish details and installation work before they become part of the scope.

Can we improve the space without doing a full remodel?

Yes. Many kitchen and bathroom updates can work around the existing layout. We also consider defined repairs, painting and finish work, including improvements before a home sale. Tell us your priorities and budget so the first conversation focuses on the changes that matter most to you.

How do we review the quality and finish details at the end?

We complete a final walkthrough with you. This is the time to review the agreed scope, look closely at the finished details and discuss any remaining items. Raise questions with Ivan during the work as well, especially when a detail affects the next stage.
